Riverside Chiropractic & Physical Rehabilitation

The Riverside Difference

As you may know, chiropractors deal with neuromuscular and skeletal conditions. The more traditional chiropractic office usually involves only a spinal adjustment, perhaps a few words about stretching. A typical session with most chiropractors seldom lasts more than 10 to 15 minutes. When the visit is prompted because of the result of an injury or trauma, the traditional chiropractor may want to see you 2 to 3 times a week for the first month. Treatment plans can extend for six months or even longer. At this point, the traditional chiropractor will suggest monthly “maintenance” visits to keep the body in alignment. The basic operating premise of chiropractic medicine is that a proper spinal alignment allows the body to “fix itself.”

At Riverside Chiropractic & Physical Rehabilitation, we are dramatically different. Our practice is geared to people who have injuries either from work, sports-related activity, accidents, or just daily activities. A typical visit lasts between 45 and 60 minutes. In addition to spinal manipulation, the session will include physio therapy/rehabilitation, stretching, and education where needed. At Riverside, you are a critical partner in the healing process and will be instructed in exercises and stretching needed to fully engage healing.

The initial evaluation at Riverside will guide the course of treatment. In general, most treatment plans can be accomplished in a series of 4 to 8 sessions. The course of treatment is evaluated at every session. Often, the treatment sessions will be spaced out because the body simply needs time to adjust and mend in response to the exercise and instruction provided. Many patients find a reevaluation useful 3 to 6 months after the initial course of treatment.

In addition to “mending the body”, Riverside Chiropractic and Physical Rehabilitation has had considerable success designing sports-specific, weight loss, and work-hardening programs. These programs are particularly advantageous for individuals who are looking for the edge in performance.

History

Riverside Chiropractic and Physical Rehabilitation opened its doors in 1998 at 200 East Girard Ave. in the Fishtown section of Philadelphia. The office was founded with the intent of becoming the primary care rehabilitation center in Fishtown with a focus on non-operative spinal care. Over the years, through education and training, the scope of the practice has widened. After 20+ years and over 9000 patients, the office enjoys a brand new, modern office at 1500 Chestnut St.

Additionally we have sought to enlarge the area we serve by opening satellite offices. In 2003, Dr. Bodoff developed a golf injury treatment program and performance enhancement training program, PowerGolf and opened a location in an indoor golf training facility in Springfield, Montgomery County. Subsequently, PowerGolf, was rolled into the Fishtown office and the 1500 Chestnut Street, in Center City, became our main treatment facility.

The Center City office is up and running and seeing new and existing patients with the focus on a treatment program catering to treating musculoskeletal injuries of the spine, shoulders and lower extremity and running related injuries and centered on videotaped gait analysis, dynamic foot strike analysis and functional examination.

We are very pleased to announce the upcoming opening of an additional Riverside Chiropractic location, in early fall, in New Orleans, Louisiana.

The Riverside Mission

Riverside Chiropractic & Physical Rehabilitation will distinguish itself as a leader in redefining health care delivery and will be recognized for the passion of its people in providing quality, innovative care to the patients and community it serves.

Finally- a chiropractor who WANTS you to get better, who isn't just trying to get you to come back week after week. I have been seeing chiropractors on & off for about 15 years- I went to Dr. Bodoff after a recent injury & he gave me a Physical Therapy evaluation, and some strengthening exercises to help me heal myself, as well as doing the cracking & manipulation that I expected. He asked me not to make a return appointment, but to call & talk to him in several days. I told him that I had improved a lot, and what I was doing, and he told me that I didn't need to come back in. :)

OWNER

David Bodoff, RN, DC

Dr.Bodoff has been a lifetime resident of Philadelphia, having been born here and being a resident most of his life. At work, Dr. Bodoff’s passion lies in helping people get back to their prior activity levels. He very much enjoys playing the part of detective to help uncover what he calls the “missing link”, that particular muscle or function that is aberrant and is the primary cause of much of a patients symptomatology. He also relishes designing specific, unique functional exercises or activities that will address the “missing link” and restore the patient’s lost function. He also is very active as a health care consultant working on issues of quality improvement, fraud detection and health care reform.

Outside of work, Dr. Bodoff can be seen running around the streets of Philadelphia or seeing movies, theater or live music. He enjoys living in the city and takes pleasure in “just walking out his door” and partaking in cultural activities or just hanging out in cafes in the city’s many intriguing neighborhoods. His other interests are photography, reading and food. He considers himself an accomplished cook.

I've been to chiropractors all over the country for some consistent problems. Between "maintenance visits" and vitamins and exercises that exacerbate the problem, I was beginning to think chiropractors really are a bunch of quacks. I went to Dr. Bodoff with the hope that the combination of chiropractic and physical therapy would do the trick, and I guessed right. He's great. He'll adjust you if needed, and show you the exercises you need to strengthen the muscles that prevent the pain from happening again. So, the nagging pain I've had in my midback that chiropractic adjustments never quite fixed is gone with exercises I do a couple times a week. My hip/low back pain is being addressed with exercises, too, and when I went in with neck pain (thinking I'd slept funny) he gave me an exercise and told me I scrunch up my shoulders, likely from computer work. Now that I'm aware of it, my posture is better, my neck pain is gone, and I can tell that my back is loads stronger. I'm actually disappointed that his approach is to strengthen you so you don't need to come back, because he's a nice guy with a much more pleasant personality than a lot of chiropractors I've met, and the office time is much more enjoyable than a lot of offices, so it's too bad I don't have to spend more time there.
